Friend
When bitter murmurings meet
the deepest enkindled qualm,
your words send forth a fair fleet,
to sorrowful oceans calm.
And when sadness’ charade breaks,
into tears and crumbling stone,
your arms sanctuary make:
warm, inviting, like a home
far from home. My companion,
my friend, You I do adore;
You, and your smile of abandon
and delight. You, to the core,
oh so patient and kind. You,
all I know, will know, and knew.
